HB1569: Share Your Story

Have you ever had to sign an affidavit to vote? Do you have access to your birth certificate, naturalization papers, or a passport? Have you ever been without them?

House Bill 1569 is a massive threat to voting rights and elections in New Hampshire that would, among other things, require demonstrated proof of citizenship in order to register and vote - i.e., a passport, naturalization papers, or a birth certificate.

The New Hampshire Campaign for Voting Rights is looking to hear from folks who could be or would have been impacted by this legislation, in part of an ongoing effort to defeat HB1569 in the New Hampshire legislature. We are looking to hear from:
Generally, any voter who has ever been without their birth certificate, naturalization papers, or a passport, or proof of address. More specifically:

  • Individuals who have ever had to sign an affidavit in order to register to vote and cast their ballot

  • Older voters who may no longer have access to their birth certificate/difficult to get a copy

  • Election officials who can speak to how voters in their community would be impacted by this legislation

  • People experiencing housing insecurity

  • Individuals who have moved to New Hampshire from a different state and don’t have their birth certificate, naturalization papers, or a passport with them

  • Individuals who have lost their birth certificate

  • Individuals who have changed their name (as an example, someone who changed their name when they married and would therefore have to bring their marriage certificate in addition to their birth certificate/passport in order to register and vote)

  • Individuals who have estranged familial relationships that keep them from getting their birth records

  • Children in military families who were born on an overseas military base

  • Individuals who struggle to afford the cost of purchasing a passport/certified copy of their birth certificate

  • Voters who do not have, or in the past didn’t have, access to documentation with their current address

If any of this applies to you (or a similar situation), please consider filling out the form below. We will not share your story or any identifying information without your explicit consent. If you have any questions, you can contact Kelsey Fisk at kfisk@americavotes.org
